Q & A on our recruitment policy

We’ve received some questions regarding the fact that we’re hiring. So we thought, let’s kick 2016 off with a little peek under the hood. Without further ado, here’s our Recruitment FAQ.

Q: What’s the role?

A: Whatever you want to make of it. Experience in software business development? We’ll let you run it. Love to lead projects? All yours. Expertise in social media and digital tools? Great, you can run our digital and lead generation. Don’t want to? No problem, we have plenty of ideas where you can help. But there better be at least one area where you’re better than any of us.

Q: What are the hours?

A: This is full time. Doesn’t mean living at the office, eating microwaved ramen and sleeping under the table (although the office does have a shower, if that’s your thing). Full time as in: all of us have a life outside of work; one of the founders has a kid and actually likes spending time with his family; we prefer to work smarter, not longer.

We don’t want 80 hours of your week. What we do insist on, however, is 100% of your brain. So if you’re juggling two other startups, or looking for something to pay the bills while you write your first book, we are not your ticket.

Q: What about part time?

A: That could work, but only for a limited duration, and only as a glide path towards a full time role.

Q: Salary?

A: Yes.

Q: Can you tell me a bit more about the salary?

A: We don’t run a charity. We have customers. You will get paid. In the beginning, you’ll have the same salary as the founders. You won’t get rich, but it’ll pay the bills. In the medium term, we’ll increase the salaries along with the business. In the medium-to-long term, we're looking to retire on private islands and visit the International Space Station in our spare time. In the long term, we’re all dead, so who cares about money anyway?

Q: Where is this?

A: We have an office in Helsinki, Finland. This doesn’t mean that you need to live in Helsinki, or even Finland for that matter. We’re committed to building a great team that can function from all locations and all time zones. If you’re awesome, we won’t let the fact that you live in Guatemala keep us from working together.

Q: Do I need to speak Finnish?

A: Only if you really like stupid engineer jokes that don’t translate well.

Q: Can I write my Master’s Thesis for you?

A: Yes, we have a few areas of interest where academic research could come in handy. Get in touch, and we’ll discuss it over a cold beverage of your choice.

Q: What’s your recruitment process?

A: We’re a startup. There is no process. We’ll contact everyone personally to first let you know that your message came through, and for a second time a while later to let you know if you passed the first screen. If you did, we’ll invite you for a cold beverage of your choice. Who knows what happens after that?

Q: What’s the deadline?

A: We’ll hire when we find a good fit. Someone who shares our values, has the right kind of ambition, brings some relevant skills to the mix, and isn’t afraid to work in close quarters with three engineers.

Q: What happens next?

A: We’re as eager to find out as you are. We’ll reply to every contact, and candidates that pass the first first screen will be informed by Jan 8th.

I hope this helps. If you have any more questions, send them in and we'll update this post accordingly. In the meanwhile, here’s to a kickass start to 2016!

PS. Keep those submissions coming
